Falls Church - McLean Children's Center

We invite runners and walkers to tell us about your experience. Take the quick 10-question survey here.

Falls Church Mayor Dave Tarter, McLean Chamber Past President Bruce Potter at right under umbrella, and Fairfax County Supervisor John Faust, stationed at the 1K finish line, awarded teddy bears to the 243 runners who turned out for the 6th Annual Teddy Bear 5K on Sunday, Sept. 23, despite the steady rain that day.

Runner registrations, sponsorships and additional donations raised an estimated $26,000 to keep the Children’s Center’s high-quality preschool program affordable and accessible to children from low-income families.

Overall fastest runners were Luke LeVan, 26, of Arlington, and Jillian Freedman, 22, of McLean.  Fastest parents with stollers were James Sherwood, 36, of Falls Church, and Nina Sheppard, 35, of Arlington.  See all Race results here. Winning runners in their age group were awarded prizes generously donated by local businesses including Doodlehopper 4 Kids, Hilton Garden Inn, Cafe Kindred, Clay Cafe Studio, Golden Boot Soccer, Bach to Rock, The Neighborhood Barbershop, Core Power Yoga, Panjshir, Road ID, Kazan Restaurant, Cafe Oggi, Greek Taverna, Assagi Osteria, Epic Pilates Studio, Potomac Riverboat Company, PR Running, and DC 101 Radio.

We thank the many volunteers including Abby and Bernard Knutsen, Anne Kanter, Carl Kalish, board members, teachers and spouses, and students from George Marshall High School Key Club and George Mason High School who gave their time and energy to the event, at packet pick up on Saturday and on race day performing a multitude of tasks. Special thanks to Fairfax County Auxilliary Officers for protecting our runners throughout Pimmit Hills on the 5K course and the crew from DC 101 Radio whose music keep us moving and able to ignore the weather. A big thanks to our generous sponsors named here.
