Falls Church - McLean Children's Center

More than 50 representatives from area faith groups, past board members, elected officials and community representatives will gather at the Children’s Center Wednesday morning, April 11 for the Founders’ Breakfast, the kick-off event of the Center’s 50th anniversary year.

“We’re pleased so many of our long-time supporters are able to turn out for this special occasion,” said Elizabeth Page, Executive Director.

A commemorative plaque with the names of founding faith groups and early supporters will be unveiled, as will a book just released on the Children’s Center’s history, written by Margery Leveen Sher, former executive director.  “A Beacon of Light: The Falls Church-McLean Children’s Center Story: How a Small Band of Caring People Generated a Successful Start for Thousands of Children” is a readable story of local residents who responded to the need for affordable, high-quality childcare in the late 1960s. Photos of children, teachers and parents who participated in and supported the program make it a heart-warming page-turner of community activism that has served more than 5,000 local young children and their hard-working parents.

The book is available for $11.29 on Amazon.com or SmileAmazon, which donates 0.5% of sales to the Children’s Center.
