Falls Church - McLean Children's Center

It was like having big brothers and big sisters come home from college Wednesday when 24 summer interns from TEGNA came to the Children’s Center. They joined our children in their favorite activities — coloring pictures of dinosaurs, sharing stories of pets, playing “make-believe,” and more. It was part of the day of community service for the interns who are working at the media corporation headquarters in McLean, Va., or its WUSA-9 TV station in D.C. Our children loved the attention from the young adults.

Our children weren’t the only ones to benefit from interns’ time and energy. After their classroom experience, TEGNA interns directed their talents to creating new games for the Center’s upcoming fun fair that precedes the Teddy Bear 5K & 1K Walk/Run on Sunday, Sept. 24. Thanks to their ingenuity, there will be a kid-powered pony race with colorful equines, a giant Kerplunk game, and a sensory course that will include red moon sand and flubber for children to jump into. An industrious intern crew also cleared the 1K course of branches and brush to make way for runners and walkers. Thank You TEGNA Interns!

You can enjoy the interns’ creations at the 5th Annual Teddy Bear 5K & 1K Walk/Run. Register at www.tinyurl.com/PRRaces-TeddyBear5K
